Wrapping up course design in iTunes U

The progress of my course on iTunes U is coming along nicely.  Again, as I use the tool and develop the course within the app, I am impressed by how easily all the pieces are falling into place.  “Creating Reflective Digital Learning Experiences” is found on iTunes U.

To be sure learners are properly scaffolded and the content is chunked appropriately I used the UBD and 3 Column Table as adapted from Fink  (2003).  The course will scaffold as a learning process and a continual learning model.  To encourage original authentic learning and development of learning products, the course is built on a gradual release model.  Students are given more freedom for choice as the course continues.

 

Readings, videos, and podcast will be designed to support and guide the learner.  An active learning experience will be done by allowing the learning to choose and analyze their own iPad apps with a guiding rubric.  From this assessments will from the creation of reflection products with the iPad.  Also, critique and discussion of other learners iPad products will be used as a community-based formative assessment.

 

For all learners to share in the learning, I have created a shared folder in Google Drive to hold all of the products that will be created.  This will allow everyone to experience in the learning together, and also share their products.  I am primarily doing this to encourage learners to learn from one another, and also to share out apps that are not specifically listed in the course.  
A final production and sharing of reflection products on their iPads will be used as a summative assessment.  This too will be added to the shared folder, again for all to learn.  There are definitely some limitations to iTunes U.  Primarily not a good way for all to see the work that is turned in.  This is why I am using the collaborative Google Drive folder to host the submitted work.  Short of that, iTunes U has been a good fit for my goal of this course.
